Defence Aviation Programs

Toll Aviation delivers vital aviation services to the Australian Defence Force (ADF), supporting critical operations through the Crash Response Helicopter (CRH) and Army Interim Commercial Helicopter (AICH) contracts. We provide aircraft, specialised personnel, maintenance, training, and comprehensive operational planning to support the readiness and effectiveness of the ADF.

The CRH contract provides two Bell B412EP helicopters to the Australian Army Aviation Training Centre in Oakey, Queensland, and one AW139 aircraft to the 1st Aviation Regiment located in Darwin. The role of the CRH is to convey medical and emergency response personnel and equipment to an aircraft emergency landing or crash site, and if required evacuate casualties to an appropriate health facility. In addition, the Darwin based CRH aircraft provides an aeromedical evacuation capability to support ADF exercises throughout the year.

The AICH Contract provides two Leonardo AW139 helicopters to B Squadron, 5th Aviation Regiment and one AW139 to the School of Army Aviation as an interim capability to support Army aircrew training, proficiency, and development. Toll Aviation provides simulator and aircraft training to Army crews, as well as in-barracks and deployed maintenance support.

An innovative feature of this service is the regulatory construct that enables Toll Aviation to support Army aircrew training and development under CASA regulations but allows Army crews to operate the aircraft under a state register governed by Defence regulations.
